Nanoislands composed of the subnanosized clusters can be deposited onto a substrate (see picture). The clusters are characterized by a variety of methods, including scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), mass spectrometry, UV/Vis spectroscopy, and differential pulse voltammetry.
