Abstract: The purpose of this article is to introduce practice nurses to the principles associated with Clinical Governance and Shared Governance and to suggest integration of these governance systems as a new model for Nursing, Health Visiting and Midwifery Service in Primary Care. The Integrated Model may be used as a mechanism for ensuring professional accountability, self-regulation of practice, continuous professional development and continuous quality improvement that lead to the provision of high quality care in Primary Care Groups (PCGs).
