Title: Erich Fromm, José Gutiérrez y el psicoanálisis humanista en Colombia
Abstract: German psychoanalyst Erich Fromm lived in Mexico between 1949 and 1974. During those years, Fromm carried out an intense psychoanalytical practice, and exerted a noticeable influence in the development of the Mexican psychoanalytic movement. Around his figure, there was a group of disciples, mostly Mexican nationals. However, Fromm had a Colombia disciple: psychiatrist and psychoanalyst José Gutiérrez (1927-2008). Between 1955 and 1961, Gutiérrez participated in Fromm´s inner circle. Fromm was both his analyst and his mentor. Back in Colombia, Gutierrez published his El método psicoanalítico de Erich Fromm (1961), the first critical analysis of frommian humanist psychoanalysis. Gutiérrez also organized a psychoanalytical school, together with his wife, psychologist and analyst Magdalena Restrepo, and began training a wide group of candidates.
