Abstract: IF THE BECKETT CHARACTER IS TO AVOID the realization of his nothingness, he must keep himself between two opposite extremes. If he chooses to use persons as reflecting others to maintain himself in the impression of existence he runs the risk of realizing his own nothingness by glimpsing his reflection in their eyes On the other hand, in isolating himself to avoid this danger he finds that his re .. fleeting others gradually diminish until he is again reflected by nothing. Beckett's first film, entitled Film,is the portrayal of a character who has realized the danger of reflection in the eyes of others and so avoids all eyes, animal and divine, as well as human. But in his frenzy to isolate himself from these, he inadvertently abolishes all reflecting others and so sees himself for what he is.
