Title: Reverse‐time migration with finite‐difference solutions of the acoustic wave equation
Abstract: We quantitatively compare the finite difference operator accuracy from second-order to eighth-order for the wave equation. The results clearly show the advantage of using higher-order finite difference schemes, especially from secondorder to fourth-order for space derivatives. A finitedifference method with the accuracy of fourth-order in space and secondorder in time is applied to twoand three-dimensional full scalar wave equations in postand pre-stack reverse-time migration for both synthetic and real data. The dispersion condition and the stability condition are also discussed. The 3-D post-stack migration of Hibernia real data shows an image improvement over 2-D migrations, although much of the structure was considered to be approximately 2-D. Finally, we successfully applied an efficient pre-stack reverse-time migration to the Marmousi synthetic data set.
