Title: Disposition and Aftermath of the Xi'an Incident: Transfer of Forces of the Northeastern Army
Abstract: As for the problem of the disposition of the Northeastern Army, in the initially announced measures for reordering the military affairs of Shaanxi and Gansu, it was only stipulated that all these troops should return to their original defense stations. The original intent was to wait until after they returned and then to make plans for concentrating them in the Gansu area, subordinate to the command of Yu Xuezhong. After the February 2 incident, the Northeastern Army generals mostly reached a thorough awareness and understanding, voluntarily ferreting out those soldiers who were suspected of having joined the Communists, and the leftist elements. In regard to Yang Hucheng's obstinate perverseness, they were quite dissatisfied. Thus Commissioner Gu (Zhutong) convened several meetings of the Northeastern Army generals, including Yu Xuezhong, He Zhuguo, Dong Yingbin, and Mi Chunlin, and, as a result of repeated consultations, decided to change the original plan of transferring the Northeastern Army to Gansu and instead switch them in an easterly transfer to the Jiangsu-Anhui border for reorganization.
