Abstract: Sociology looks upon religion as a social, cultural, and historical construction modeled by social relations of class, race, and gender. Those researching religions have shown how these relations are contradictory for believers since at times they function as spaces for control and restriction of autonomy, and at others they function as spaces for empowering women. The investment of the feminine population in religions has produced different interpretations of the divine, sacred texts, practices, and rules of conduct set by belief. The field of Sociology of Religion criticizes the sexism present in current analyses of religion as well as in works of classic authors.
