Title: Effect of Sevidol on the Induction of Micronuclei in the Bone-Marrow Erythrocytes of Mice
Abstract: SUMMARYSevidol, an insecticidal mixture comprising carbaryl and lindane, was studied for genotoxicity evaluation in the bone-marrow erythrocytes of Swiss albino male mice. EMS was taken as the reference mutagen. Sevidol was dissolved in DMSO and three dose levels (1/10 LD50, 1/2 LD50, a dose close to LD50) were studied. Sevidol was found to increase the number of micronuclei significantly in the polychromatic erythrocytes at the three doses tested. A significant decrease in the number of polychromatic erythrocytes was also observed at the highest dose tested, indicating the toxic nature of the compound.
