Title: Book review: The Art of the Metaobject Protocol by Gregor Kiczales, Jim des Rivieres, and Daniel G. Bobrow (MIT Press, 1991) and Object-Oriented Programming: The CLOS Perspective Edited by Andreas Paepcke (MIT Press, 1993)
Abstract: Yielding the "best" possible performance from a given design may impact an application's viability. In a competitive software application market, performance analysis using benchmarks may set one vendor ahead of the others. In "real-time" systems, performance optimizations may be critical to achieving "deadlines", points in time in which processing must be completed. Even in computer systems that do not fall into either category, a faster system is often preferable to a slower one.
