Title: Some observations on the ultrastructure of the oocyte of Thyone briareus with special reference to the relationship of the Golgi complex and endoplasmic reticulum in the formation of yolk
Abstract: Electron microscope studies on developing oocytes of Thyone briareus reveal the proteinaceous yolk granules to first appear within components of the Golgi complex. The special association between the Golgi complexes and endoplasmic reticulum observed and described during vitellogenesi suggests an interrelationship of these two membrane systems in yolk formation. Changes in the disposition and organization of the endoplasmic reticulum as well as the transfer of nucleoli from the nucleus to the cytoplasm are also described.
