Title: Geochemistry of the Savalan volcano (northwestern Iran)
Abstract: Savalan, a Plio-Quaternary stratovolcano located in east Azerbaijan, Iran, is composed of high-K calc-alkaline andesitic rocks (andesites, dacites and rare rhyolites). The rocks have high contents of Sr, Ba, and light rare-earth elements (LREE). The major and traceelement content of the rocks is consistent with the derivation of their parental magma by partial melting of upper-mantle garnet peridotite enriched in large-ion-lithophile elements (LILE) and presumably located in the region overlying the subduction zone. The volcanic rocks of the Savalan volcano are probably related genetically by low-pressure amphibole-dominated fractionation.
