Title: Improving Educational Productivity for Young Children
Abstract: Abstract In the wake of educational reform researchers are turning their attention to programs for young children. The goal is to reach children with high-quality programs that offer the potential for future academic success. This paper discusses the need for evaluating the efficiency of early childhood education programs. Furthermore, it presents a model of educational productivity that specifies nine chief factors which require optimization to increase affective, behavioral, and cognitive learning. Syntheses of thousands of research studies show the power of these nine factors to influence learning. The role of cooperative partnerships between home and school programs in influencing these nine factors is emphasized. Finally, the paper highlights the need for further research that would examine in more detail the developmental, instructional, and environmental influences unique to young children.
