Title: The effect of deformation on grain growth in Zener pinned systems
Abstract: The effect of deformation on grain growth during straining—dynamic grain growth—of polycrystals nominally at the Zener limit has been considered. Both homogeneous deformation, and deformation which is inhomogeneous as a result of intergranular plastic anisotropy, give perturbations of geometry which lead to grain growth with strain. There may be further contributions which reduce Zener drag during straining, and these would have a significant effect. These cases have been modelled as two-dimensional approximations, and this modelling shows that the geometric effects of deformation on grain growth in particle-containing systems could be a major contributor to the dynamic grain growth observed in practice.
