Title: Periodontal therapy: principles of pocket elimination
Abstract: Because periodontal pockets interfere with the patient’s efforts to remove plaque, their elimination is an important component of periodontal therapy. The objectives of periodontal therapy are to arrest the disease process and to restore the periodontium to a state of health. Pockets are the result of periodontal disease. Since these pockets interfere with the removal of plaque, a major etiologic agent of the disease, pocket elimination is an important component of periodontal therapy.
