Complications that may occur are divided into three groups: mechanical, infectious, and metabolic. While mechanical complications related to central venous catheter placement can be minimized by the skill and experience of the operator, infectious and metabolic complications, such as hyperglycemia and electrolyte abnormalities, are more likely to be decreased by careful observation and monitoring of the patient. Certain guidelines, which are presented here, should be followed to prevent such complications, while problems that may occur should be recognized and treated promptly.Read More
