Title: COMBINED PREDNISOLONE, AZATHIOPRINE, AND CYCLOPHOSPHAMIDE TREATMENT FOR PERSISTENT PROLIFERATIVE GLOMERULONEPHRITIS IN ADULTS
Abstract: Twelve adults—seven with nephrotic syndrome due to proliferative glomerulonephritis and five with persistent proliferative glomerulonephritis—were given prednisolone alone, or in combination with azathioprine or with azathioprine and cyclophosphamide. Prednisolone alone or with azathioprine did not produce remission but on the combined prednisolone/azathioprine/cyclophosphamide treatment ten patients recovered completely. No serious toxic reactions to this regimen were ob served. Triple-drug therapy seems to interfere with the immune process more effectively than double therapy.
