Title: Sodium tungsten bronze thin films: Variation of chemical potential with sodium concentration
Abstract: Abstract The method of fabrication of the solid-state electrochemical cell, ITO, WO3 | Na-β-alumina | NaxWO3, ITO is described. The equilibrium potential of the NaxWO3 | Na-β-alumina electrode versus pure sodium (via a sodium amalgam electrode) has been determined as a function of x in the range 2 × 10-4 to 0.97. A simple free-electron model has been used to find a theoretical expression for the non-ideal part of the chemical potential of NaxWO3 up to x ≈ 1 4 : the agreement between theory and experiment is within the experimental error.
