Title: Incorporating Geriatrics in a Medical School Curriculum
Abstract: This paper describes the incorporation of geriatrics into an existing medical school curriculum through the use of a vertical format. This involves incorporating learning objectives and geriatrics material into multiple existing courses throughout the four years of medical education. Results of five surveys of departmental chairmen and/or the directors of existing courses conducted over a seven year period indicate that this approach has allowed for an increase in the total number of hours dedicated to geriatrics without objections from course directors, department chairment, or the curriculum committee.
