Title: Strategic Asset Allocation and Total Portfolio Returns
Abstract: Strategic asset allocation has its place in the investment decision-making process and reflects a trade-off between opportunity and safety that only the investor should make. The asset allocation decision should take into consideration basic issues: determining which systems to model, identifying goals and fears, modeling the future, making decisions based on model results, and knowing what to do next. Ultimately, the impact that asset allocation has on total return reflects judgmental departures from a naive alternative. This presentation comes from the Asset Allocation in a Changing World conference held in London, United Kingdom, on April 1-2, 1998.
