Title: A pediatric patient with acute hepatitis E in Japan
Abstract: We encountered a 14-year-old Bangladeshi boy who developed acute hepatitis E in Japan. He showed improvement without the development of fulminant hepatitis. His hepatitis E virus (HEV) genotype was I, which causes epidemics mainly in South Asia. He developed this disease more than 6 months after coming to Japan. Considering the latent period, it was suspected that he had been infected with HEV in Japan, although the HEV virus is presumed not to be indigenous to Japan.
