This article reports on a pilot study of 94 black women and white women that examined the tensions between these two groups and their failure to unite to combat the oppressive patriarchal system. The variables that were studied included the women's liberation movement, the feud over black men, white women supervisors and black women workers, and the labeling of black women as matriarchs.
