Title: A Comparative Investigation on the Composition of the Volatiles from Seeds ofNigella sativaL. from Bulgaria
Abstract: Abstract The volatile oils from seeds of Nigella sativa L., obtained through hydro and steam distillation and hexane extraction were analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The essential oil yields were 0.45 % (hydro distillation), 0.41 % (steam distillation) and the volatile oil yield was 0.20 % (hexane extraction and distillation). The main components in the essential oil obtained by water distillation were p-cymene (56.4 %) and α-thujene (17.3 %). The essential oil obtained by steam distillation and the hexane extract were found to be rich in thymoquinone (48.2 and 42.8 %) and p-cymene (30.1 and 33.9 %), respectively.
