Title: Factors Influencing Women’s Empowerment on Microcredit Borrowers: A Case Study in Bangladesh
Abstract: In recent years, microcredit programmes have received wider global attention targeting the poor in developing countries. Study conducted by United Nations (2004)1 shows that more than one billion people around the world live below the poverty line, which particularly includes women and children of developing countries. They further emphasise that women's empowerment is a critical factor in eradicating women's poverty. Abed (2000) argues that women's economic emancipation is pivotal for alleviating poverty. In Bangladesh, over the last few decades, both microcredit institutions and non-government organisations (NGOs) have been contributing to break the cycle of poverty. One of the main features of both microcredit institutions and NGOs has been the overwhelming representation of women.KeywordsPower DistanceProductive AssetMobility IndexBangladesh Rural Advancement CommitteeMicrocredit ProgrammeThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
