Abstract: Twenty‐one commercially available corn ( Zea mays L.) hybrids and 28 inbred lines of corn were inoculated with Colletotrichum graminicola (Ces.) Wils. to determine the range of resistance present in the hybrids and to identify inbred germplasms resistant to this fungus which causes anthracnose. An isolate of C. graminicola obtained in Kentucky was used for all inoculations in the greenhouse screening tests. All of the hybrids developed anthracnose lesions that were more severe than the resistant inbred line used as a check, but nine of the hybrids had ratings of 2.5 or less, on a 1 to 5 scale, and were considered moderately resistant. Ratings of inbred lines ranged from 2.3 to 4.0. Several of the inbreds consistently had ratings below 3.0 and had restricted lesions that did not kill the leaves.
