Title: The normal bacterial flora of the alimentary canal of laboratory stocks of the desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria Forskål
Abstract: The normal bacterial flora of the foregut, midgut, hindgut (excluding rectal sac), and rectal sac of laboratory stocks of the desert locust, Schistocerca gregaria Forskål, was examined. A fairly large number of different species was isolated from the foregut, but the midgut flora was very much more sparse, as was that of the hindgut. In the rectal sac, there was an increase in a number of species. Motile streptococci were isolated from the midgut and hindgut.
