Abstract: Performance ImprovementVolume 38, Issue 8 p. 26-31 Article Linking business needs to training objectives and delivery media William W. Lee, William W. Lee Dr. William (Bill) Lee: , Director of Performance Technology for American Airlines Training Group, provides leadership and consulting to the training group on the development, design, and evaluation of training, integrating technology into training, and improving classroom instructional techniques. He teaches on the faculty of the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas at Arlington. He is the lead author of The Computer Based Training Handbook: Assessment, Design, Development, Evaluation, published by Educational Technology Publishers. Bill has previously taught on the faculty of three universities, including Penn State University, where he received his MEd in Education and PhD in Curriculum Instruction. He was Manager of Corporate Curriculum Development at EDS for three years, and an instructional designer and evaluation consultant for IBM, General Motors, and Singapore. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Dallas Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development and is the recipient of the chapter's 1997 Professional Development Award for his writing. His early career was as a classroom teacher. During Bill's 30 years in the field he has seen too many good training initiatives fail to achieve their potential because they were not systematically approached, but rather seen as a fad and used in isolation from the needs of the organization. Bill strives to bring some sanity to the application of technology to training. He spends his time away from work collecting antiques and going to movies and live theater. Diana consults with companies applying a variety of strategies to the training analysis, design, and development processes. She is currently working with several Fortune 500 companies developing cost-effective strategies for alternate media training materials. Diana received her master's degree in Human Resources Management, Training and Development from Chapman College, Orange County, California, and has more than 15 years' experience in the field of training development.
