In laboratory colonies, the sugars were preferred in the order glucose > sucrose > jaggery > fructose > lactose; but in another sequence—sucrose > jaggery > glucose > fructose > lactose, in the free living colonies. The discrepancy is accounted for by the characteristics of sugars which influence consummatory behaviour in the two situations.Read More
