Title: Microsurgical vascular decompression of cranial nerves
Abstract: Vascular compression of the fifth and seventh cranial nerves is considered the cause of tic douloureux and hemifacial spasm. Therefore, these conditions are best treated by microvascular decompression. Success with these disorders has encouraged neurosurgeons to consider vascular compression the cause of other idiopathic cranial nerve syndromes.
