Abstract: In their book "Type A Behaviour and your Heart", Meyer Friedman and Ray Rosenman presented a large amount of evidence, including that based on their own research over 20 years, that the chief cause of heart disease lies in a distinct behaviour pattern, involving a particular complex of personality, life-style and attitude. This so-called "Type A" behaviour pattern seems to bear a far closer correlation to the incidence of heart disease than other suspected causes, such as improper diet, smoking, lack of exercise or obesity. Having defined and discussed the detection of the elements of Type A behaviour, some methods for modifying it to help prevent heart disease and hypertension will be presented. These include re-engineering the life style against "hurry sickness", the battle against time which is the chief component sustaining the behaviour pattern. Drills for Type A's against this, against hostility and towards things worth being will be explored and their affectiveness discussed.
