The evidence relating to the sex ratios of some alcohol- related problem indicators in New Zealand over a 25 year period is examined, and little or no convergence of the ratios can be seen, although the absolute numbers of both men and women with alcohol- related problems have increased over this time. There is, however, convergence of the ratio of men and women charged and convicted of drunken driving, but this may reflect enforcement practices and other factors. Possible reasons for people's perceptions of increased rates of women's alcohol problems are considered.Read More
