This showed that dynamic instability occurs at and above a certain shaft speed, and that the shaft then precesses at a frequency of one half of the shaft speed. An experimental investigation is described and good agreement between the predicted and measured response of a bearing with four recesses was obtained for amplitudes up to an eccentricity ratio of about 0·3.Read More
