Title: A fracture condition based on the upper bound method for the extrusion of bimetallic tubes
Abstract: The upper-bound method has been applied, in combination with the minimum-energy principle and the geometric compatibility of the deformation, to obtain a fracture condition during the hot extrusion of bimetallic tubes. The dependence of this fracture condition on the different extrusion parameters involved in the process is analysed, and safety and fracture maps are obtained. It is shown that the yield stress ratio, the die angle and the extrusion ratio are the most effective factors in the control of failure. In conclusion, the paper provides useful guidelines for the selection of material couples as well as extrusion parameters assuring a compatible plastic flow in the process.
