Abstract: The theory of cluster algebras gives rise to an important notion of quiver mutations. Using the representation theory of finite-dimensional algebras, we show that the acyclic connected quivers of finite mutation type with at least three vertices are precisely the Dynkin and extended Dynkin quivers with arbitrary orientation.
