Title: P2‐142: The French national databank for Alzheimer's disease
Abstract: The main objectives of the French national Plan Alzheimer 2008 - 2012 (characterised by transparency and unitary governance yet spanning the education, health, research and social ministries) are to improve knowledge about dementia, diminish stigma and provide better education and training for professionals; ensure that people with dementia are properly diagnosed and; develop a range of services for people with dementia and their carers). These objectives has been developed in 44 measures. The objective of the Measure 34 is to setting up a system to capture by an electronic database data and for epidemiological surveillance and follow up within all the memory consultations. The electronic data base has been proposed to all the French memory centres. The first step was to build a minimum clinical data set to be fulfilled by all the centres (CIMA for Corpus Information Minimum Alzheimer). CIMA is made of different type of information: Data regarding the Center / Data regarding the patient / Data related to the follow-up. Patient and care consultation part include: the origin of the patient (GP, specialist, social network), the patient life style and education level, the geographic location of the patient regarding to the memory center, diagnosis, type of consultation (single, multidisciplinary, day hospital, neuropsychological assessment, Mini Mental Score Examination (MMSE), IADL, pharmacological and non pharmacological treatment. At each consultation the CIMA is sent to the Alzheimer National Bank (BNA). For this presentation we analyzed all data transmitted by centres between 1st January 2010 and 1st January 2011. 262 centres (including Memory consultations, Research Memory Centre and a sample of private neurologist) have submitted at least one CIMA to the BNA during the year. The analysis highlights a collection of 94492 patients for 172949 consultations. The average age of patients was 76.2 (±12.5) years (77.3 for women and 74.4 for men). 21.5 % of patients have a higher level of education than the first degree and 84.6 % of the total of patients lives at home at the time of the hospital visit. Only 6.5 % of patients lived in a nursing home. 42,264 patients have been diagnosed Alzheimer's disease correlated disorders (26.37 % for AD alone) and 6 848 (7,24 %) patients had a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment. For the overall population the average MMSE score was 21.25 (±6.52). For the AD patients the mean first MMSE in the BNA was 17.2 and the mean first MMSE in the BNA for MCI patients was 25.5. The BNA will provide longitudinal data for specific analysis to understand needs on local health territories and to size the specialized care in each regional health organization scheme. By contributing to the BNA, the memory centres enhance their clinical activity and allow to advance knowledge in epidemiology and medical research in the very concerned field of the Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
