Title: Nonparametric statistics for the analysis of behavior-related single unit data
Abstract: Two kinds of nonparametric tests are suggested for the evaluation of similarities and differencies in behavior-related single unit activity. One is the Spearman (or Kendall) rank correlation coefficient, the other the Wilcoxon test for matched pairs. Firing patterns of two units of a cat performing a spatial reversal task illustrate the application of the two tests and their interaction, as well as possible interpretations.
