Title: A molecular view of the Ultrabithorax homeotic gene of Drosophila
Abstract: The pioneering work of E.B. Lewis drew attention early on to the developmental role of Ultrabitborax (Ubx), one of a group of homeotic genes that specify the distinguishing features of Drosophila segments. Recent molecular work sheds light on the genetic complexity discovered by Lewis and demonstrates that Ubx executes its developmental role by producing a family of closely related DNA-binding proteins that can function as transcription factors.
