In the conventional design environment, designers try to enhance design productivity by storing designed circuits in a library for future reuse. However, a fixed circuit stored in a library is optimized to a particular set of performance specifications; and, hence, its reusability is low. By contrast, the proposed methodology stores not only designed results but also design methods that show how to design circuits. When different sets of specifications are required, circuits are designed automatically based on the stored design methods, which improves design efficiency. To evaluate the proposed design methodology, a method is devised that automatically stores a design procedure from the design process of a human designer and reuses it for circuit analysis. A prototype design system that realizes it is implemented. Experimental results on the design of an operational amplifier show the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.Read More
