Title: The Martian magnetosheath: Phobos-2 observations
Abstract: Plasma and magnetic field data from the PHOBOS-2 spacecraft are examined to provide a description of the Martian magnetosheath. The addition of a planetary-ion population to the hydrogen magnetoplasma strongly modifies the characteristics of this region. The transition from the shocked solar wind to the magnetosphere is characterized by the appearance of new boundaries. The magnetosheath is filled by intense bi-ion magnetoacoustic waves which may evolve to multiple shock-like structures.
