Title: Open Skies for Africa: Implementing the Yamoussoukro Decision
Abstract: In Africa, domestic and international air transport is often viewed as being able to provide a greater economic growth and development potential than the inadequate roads, ports and railways common in most of Africa. Domestic air transport markets still lag behind their international, intercontinental transport connections. The Yamoussoukro Decision treaty attempted to address the need for regional, local and intracountry air transport services. This book examines how much progress has been made, discusses still pending steps toward greater air transport and addresses basic challenges of less than adequate aviation safety and security. Emphasizing the economic significance of air transport, future policy recommendations are presented.
