Title: APPLICATION OF THE ISOTOPE DILUTION TECHNIQUE TO THE MEASUREMENT OF SOME NUCLEAR REACTION CROSS-SECTIONS
Abstract: The cross section for the production of Li6 in O16 and N14 bombardment by 155-Mev protons was measured. Values of 12 plus or minus 4 and 8.5 plus or minus 3 mb at Li6/Li7 ratios of 1/7 were obtained for the O16 and N16 cross sections respectively. The quantity of lithium produced was determined by isotope dilution using as tracer the natural lithium remaining in tridistilled water (for O16) and tridistilled liquid ammonia (for N14). The Na22/Na24 ratio in aluminum bombarded by 155-Mev protons was found to be 1.8 plus or minus 0.15. The sodium produced in the aluminum was extracted by vacuum distillation and the mass spectra were determined.
