Abstract: This study is purposed to identify the properties and components of visitors' on-site experiences in rural tourism setting and to analyze the effects of both the properties and components on their amenity images. Self-administered surveys were delivered to achieve study objective through an inquiry with 276 city dwellers who participated in rural tourism programs. It was found that visitors' on-site experiences greatly affect the formation of their rural amenity images. Based on the result of a canonical correlation analysis, on-site experience dimensions of 'escape from routine life' and 'fun' are significantly associated with amenity images of rural culture and agricultural products. In developing and operating rural tourism business, on-site experience programs, visitor facilities, and country style services with hospitality could be regarded as core elements.
