Title: Melanocytoma with juxtapapillary nevus: premalignant or benign?
Abstract: A melanocytoma is a benign heavily pigmented tumor that usually arises at the optic nerve. Originally thought to be a malignant neoplasm, currently, it is believed to be a variant of the melanocytic nevus. Recently, several cases of malignant transformation to malignant melanoma have been reported. We present the case of a 63-year-old man with a melanocytoma and juxtapapillary choroidal nevus that remained stable for more than six years. Although the overwhelming majority of such neoplasms are benign, regular follow-up examinations are recommended because there is a small risk of malignant transformation.
