Title: Profit and accumulation : Marxist theories and the Australian evidence, 1949-1994
Abstract: This thesis aims to assess the ability of contemporary Marxist economic theories to explain the Australian macroeconomic data. A realist method is used, which distinguishes the approach from alternatives that would either insulate theories from the rigours of empirical accountability or deny them access to the deeper social realities governing economic events and relationships. It is insisted that a Marxist social economics must be especially demanding of itself, logically and empirically.
