Abstract: We propose a theoretical and experimental approach for optimizing agitated dissolution tanks to minimize energy requirements. Semiempirical equations for estimation of the mass transfer coefficient and the minimum impeller speed for suspension are reported. Conclusions of practical importance have been gained-showing the effect of impeller speed and final solution concentration on the specific energy consumption required for preparation of storage solutions of chemicals. In addition, the efficiency of the classical dissolution tank stirred with a single axial impeller has been compared with high aspect ratio tanks agitated with multiple axial impellers.
