Title: Permian-Triassic Boundary in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago
Abstract: Abstract In the Canadian Arctic Archipelago marine Permian and Triassic strata are part of a thick sequence deposited within the Sverdrup Basin. Although structurally concordant the Permian and Triassic beds are separated by a substantial regional unconformity. The youngest Permian rocks beneath this unconformity are probably early Gaulalupian. They are certainly not of latest Permian age. The oldest Triassic rocks contain Otoceras and are correlated with the Otoceras woodwardi Zone and are thus as old as the rocks that define the base of the Triassic System. Evidently an interval of erosion or non-deposition occurred between the Permian and Triassic; the period of time that is not represented by sediment is entirely within the Permian.
