Abstract: This chapter discusses “Outlook form design,” with information on both basic and advanced techniques. Practical applications have included a vacation request form, which is a form that automatically keeps an updated copy of itself in a public folder, and a post form to collect data and send it as a structured HTML or plain text message. It is possible to hide and show form pages and to avoid problems related to Outlook's forms architecture. It is also possible to link Outlook items in several different ways and understand that custom actions are a unique Outlook programming tool to help the user to generate new items that inherit properties. Custom actions also allow the user to add toolbar buttons that run code in the user's forms without the need for command buttons on a custom page. Outlook forms can be made to work over the Internet. Even if a user works in an organization that uses exchange as its mail/collaboration server, these techniques can be used to communicate with external clients and suppliers.
