Title: LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT - A CONCEPTUAL MODEL
Abstract: This article describes a methodology for analyzing change in freight transport patterns, specifically how the freight transport sector is influenced by the logistics principles of production and distribution. The authors note that, within logistics, transport is often only thought of in conjunction with supply and demand chains. Transport is seen as a necessary and inevitable consequence of development; however the relationship between transport and economic growth is mediated by logistics (the restructuring of production and distribution). The authors also consider the environmental aspects of transportation. They present some frameworks to begin incorporating logistics into the analysis of transportation patterns.
