Title: Chief Justice Roberts (A Preliminary Assessment)
Abstract: In Justice Roberts (A Preliminary Assessment), Professor Loewy explores Chief Justice John Roberts time as chief justice as both a leader and a jurist in his own right. Loewy finds that while Roberts does not stand out as a leader now, his influence may increase if the court is filled with more like-minded justices. As a jurist, however, Loewy provides a critical analysis of his major opinions in criminal procedure, free speech, religion, and federalism. During this analysis, Loewy finds that while Roberts stays consistent with the Reinquist Court on issues of criminal procedure, he may differ from the previous court in federalism issues.
