There are two principal ferrous slag sources : blast furnace slag and steel furnace slag. Blast furnace slag is formed in the ironmaking furnace and liquified in a pressurised furnace. Subsequent cooling and breaking up of solids leads to blast furnace slag aggregates of size of 20mm, 40mm and 60mm. Of recent time, blast furnace slag is also being produced in a granulated form (90% minus 2.36mm) by cooling rapidly from the molten state. Unlike blast furnace slag, steel furnace slag is not formed in a pressure vessel but on a surface of steel melt or bath under turbulent conditions.Read More
