Abstract: Railroads are increasingly looking towards a standard toolkit of switch geometries. Particularly on high speed lines, slab track installation for switches has long been an expensive and difficult process. This is dramatically changing, however, as Germany's Max Bogl introduces new innovations. Max Bogl prefabricated slab track switch bases, currently being installed in China, are examined by the author. Since there can be separate installation of the base, progress is made much smoother and the risk of factors such as adverse weather affecting the installation of these critical components is reduced. It makes installing switches and crossings much more straightforward and faster. The Max Bogl system has eliminated one of the most challenging obstacles to installing slab track.
